The facility is designed to house the County’s Engineering Department and Highway Department under one structure. It interconnects four major functions: the Engineering Department’s offices and public meeting room, the Highway Department’s crew areas - including locker rooms and a break room, the Highway Department’s enclosed vehicle storage, and a vehicle maintenance area to serve the County’s fleet.
As part of the design considerations, the County had a desire to encompass green concepts by integrating energy efficiency, durability, and light into the design of the facility.

Details that make a difference.

  • As part of the design considerations, the County had a desire to encompass green concepts by integrating energy efficiency, durability, and light into the design of the facility. This was achieved in many aspects through the use of:
    • insulated precast wall panels.
    • a geothermal heating and cooling system.
    • heated floor system in the vehicle storage and maintenance bays.
    • large punched openings occurring in the precast that contain windows in order to provide as much natural light as possible throughout the day in all areas of the building.
