Richland Community College partnered with the Heartland Technical Academy (HTA) to offer a majority of its programs on the existing Richland campus starting in the fall of 2011. The Tech Academy provides career exploration and training to nearly 600 high school juniors and seniors in 20 program areas, and serves students from 18 high schools representing Decatur and the surrounding areas. The partnership with the HTA will allow Richland to achieve a greater utilization of exiting campus space while serving more students with programs which include: Culinary and Hospitality Management, Early Childhood Education, Building Trades, Welding, Automotive Technology, Auto Body and Diesel Technology, HVAC, CAD & Engineering, and Maintenance and Information Technology.
Additional laboratory space will be constructed in order to meet the demands for the expanded programming. A needs assessment of the current space determined the additional occupational program requirements will be met through renovation of existing campus spaces, an addition to the existing main campus building, site work, and construction of a new facility.
