The addition and renovation of this existing school for the Chicago Public Schools includes a geothermal loop incorporated into the redesign of the existing parking spaces. This geothermal system will be incorporated into the existing mechanical system in order to reduce the overall energy load of the addition and existing buildings. Natural light is incorporated into the addition with permanent shading devices and light shelves on the southern elevation and expansive use of glazing on the northern elevation. The one-story cafeteria of the addition will feature a green roof directly observable by the students from the second floor corridor observation area.
