Bennett Day School is a PreK-12 independent school committed to advancing creativity, leadership and a love of learning. As a result of a master planning and programming process, led by BLDD, the interior shell of an existing building was reprogrammed to serve as their flagship school. Built in 1900 as a settlement house and formerly known as Chicago Commons, this historic building now serves as the flagship campus building of the Bennett Day School.
With a student/teacher ratio of 10 to 1, Bennett focuses on experiential learning in a progressive and welcoming environment, and has become one of the most progressive learning environments in the city.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math

With a student/teacher ratio of 10 to 1, Bennett focuses on experiential learning in a progressive and welcoming environment. Unique spaces including tinker labs, piazzas, breakout areas spread throughout the building, and warm and flexible classrooms make the school as unique as the students they teach.
It's really exciting to see our program taking shape in this quirky, wonderful old historic building. I think I speak for the team when I say how much we appreciate the care [BLDD have] taken in realizing our shared school vision, and made room for as many of our specific programmatic blivets as possible.

- Kate Ciccelli, Principal, Bennett Day School

  • Classroom flexibility is made a priority from the beginning, and influences everything from room layouts to the modular design of the furniture.
